U.S. Economy: Retail Sales Unexpectedly Fell in May

June 11 (Bloomberg) -- Sales at U.S. retailers unexpectedly dropped in May for the first time in eight months, indicating the rebound in consumer spending is cooling as Americans boost savings.
Whatever! Try this on for size, there are no jobs. Millions of jobless are no-longer being counted because they are no-longer eligible for unemployment insurance. For all intents and purposes, they have been thrown away.

The decline of 1.2% from April is the biggest in eight months. The dive, in a broad array of categories, spurs new doubts about the state of the economic recovery. 'The climb may be steeper than we thought,' an industry spokesperson says.
