Tensions High at California High School Following Flag Flap
- FOXNews.com
Tensions are rising at a California high school where five students were sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo.
More than 200 Hispanic students reportedly skipped class on Thursday and marched to school district headquarters while chanting "we want respect" and "si se puede" -- "yes we can" -- the Morgan Hill Times reported.
The students were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags, the parent said.

AMERICAN teens displaying AMERICAN flag in AMERICA is disrespectful to Mexicans because it's Cinco de Mayo?
How is this possible in America? It doesn't matter if it's a foreign holiday or not, this is still America. Let's all go to Mexico and try telling them not to show their Mexican flag--in Mexico, on the fourth of July because it's OUR holiday. Yeah, that'd work real well. But they can do it here and get away with it.

Morgan Hill: Teen athletes entangled in debate over U.S. flag clothing
By Lisa Fernandez and Bruce Newman
Mercury News
Four students exposed raw feelings about race and immigration in a Morgan Hill high school this week when they made the provocative choice to wear shirts and shorts bearing the stars and stripes of the American flag to school on Cinco de Mayo.
Now their actions — which an assistant principal at Live Oak High School labeled "incendiary" — are spilling across the small town's borders, igniting a national debate on cable television's 24-hour talkfest.
Highlighting mine.
